Event at Matswapati

Jaipongan Performance at Matswapati


Guys!! Do you know Matswapati?? Matswapati is one event which was held by SMAN 3 Bandung. That event supossed for preserved indonesia's culture. There are Jaipongan performance, wayang performance, and others cultural performances. I stunned to see Jaipongan dance, so i am going to tell you about Jaipongan dance. 
Jaipongan is a dance that was born from the creativity of an artist from Bandung, Gugum Gumbira. He was inspired by the folk art one of them is Tilu Tap into treasury well know and recognize movement patterns that exist in traditional dance or Bajidoran Kliningan or Tap Tilu. So that he can develop a dance or art that is now known by the name Jaipongan.

The beginning of its history is In 1961, Indonesian President Sukarno challenged Indonesian musicians to revive the indigenous arts. The name jaipongan came from people mimicking of the sounds created by some of the drums in the ensemble. Audiences were often heard shouting jaipong after specific sections of rhythmic music were played. Jaipongan debuted in 1974 when Gugum Gumbira and his gamelan and dancers first performed in public.

Dance Jaipongan today can be called as one of the West Javanese dances, looks at important events arrival of guests from foreign countries who came to West Java, always welcomed with dance performances Jaipongan. Jaipongan dance this much influence on other art-art that is in West Java, both in art wayang, gamelan, and other Genjring has even collaborated with Modern dangdut.

Now, Indonesia’s young generation have fogotten their own culture, the popularity of Jaipongan has decreased. Therefore, Matswapati, cultural Festival which was held by SMAN 3 Bandung senior high school, showed Jaipong dance.

At 27 September 2014, The four dancer of Jaipongan from Jugala Raya studio was beautiful with good make up. They wore pink kebaya and samping batik, they danced skillfully. The other atribute which they used was sword. I didn’t really know what musical instrumen which accompanied them, but usually Jaipongan accompany with gamelan.

Matswapati have us realize that Jaipong dance is not boring dance, but cool dance. I belive that someday Jaipong dance will be popular because us, Indonesia’s young generation.

Now is our time to preserve Jaipongan. We are Indonesia’s young generation, so if not us, who else? If not now, when? Spirit Indonesia!! I love you.
